Abstract
The isoimmune hemolytic disease of the newborn due to anti-E is caused by maternal sensitization to the specific antigen E on fetal red cells during pregnancy or from incompatible blood transfusion. It is characterized by the progressive neonatal
jaundice with hemolytic anemia and the elevated maternal titers of anti-E antibodies.
We experienced two cases of severe jaundice noted in one inborn neonate at age of l day, and one outborn baby at age of 3 days. The direct Coomb's test on the patient's red cells and the indirect Coomb's test on the mother;s serum were strongly
positive
in both cases. But there was no evidence of ABO or Rh incompatability. Anti-E antibody was detected in the mother's serum by antibody screening and identification test in the both cases. In both cases, clinical symptoms were resolved by an
emergency
exchange transfusion and phototherapy.
